DIVF/DEM

Donated Germ Cell Therapy (DIVF)

The treatment method using donated female gametes (DIVF) has become one of the most successful methods of assisted reproduction in ISCARE clinics.

The treatment is intended for couples where one or both partners cannot use their own germ cells for fertilization.

Female infertility has many causes. If a woman has fertility problems, we can solve most of them in our clinics. The treatment program includes a number of methods, including fertilization of donated eggs with the sperm of the partner or the sperm of an anonymous donor.

What is the process of a female donor selection?

During the introductory interview, the recipient fills in a questionnaire about preferred characteristics of the donor. Based on this information, a suitable donor is selected with the consent of the recipient.

For the ISCARE team, one of the priorities is to choose a donor of the same phenotype as is the recipient. The phenotype represents a set of observable external traits and characteristics, it is an external manifestation of the genotype (genetic information). The basic parameters of selection also include compatibility with the blood type, height, weight, eye color, hair color and level of education. This is also the only information about the donor that we can provide to the recipient.

The waiting time for a suitable donor ranges from a few weeks to a few months, depending also on the recipient’s preferences. If we already have frozen eggs from a suitable donor, it is possible to start treatment almost immediately.

How does the treatment process work?

In the first step, the menstrual cycles of the donor and the recipient are synchronized. The recipient undergoes hormonal preparation individually tailored by our physician. On the day the eggs are extracted, they are fertilized by the partner’s sperm.

As part of this treatment method, we offer the following guarantee program:

  • Provided the partner’s seminogram is normal, we guarantee that at least two blastocysts (stem cell embryos) will be obtained.
  • If the donor experiences unforeseen insufficiency, we will promptly start searching for a new donor.

What is the treatment’s success rate?

during the first cycle, 60% to 70% of women become pregnant under the donated germ cell (DIVF) treatment. Success depends mainly on the age of the female recipient.

Who is the treatment for?

  • Couples where both partners are infertile and need donated eggs and sperm.
  • Couples who are unable to conceive a viable embryo.
  • Couples whose IVF cycles from their own germ cells have repeatedly failed.

How does the treatment process work?

The preparation of the woman for the acceptance of a donated embryo proceeds according to the same standards as for the insertion of an embryo from one’s own germ cells.

Embryo selection is based on the recipient’s preferences as in donated egg therapy (DIVF). The selection of a sperm donor must meet equally strict criteria and is also anonymous. We select the most suitable embryos according to the parameters specified by the partners.
